This just makes me cry…
Everything I love all rolled into a video. Love!
Desmond Harrington. Dear Lord.
Okay, well. The title is pretty self explanatory, but in case you missed it, this is going to be a post about the things I can’t wait to jump into when I get home to Nebraska. Don’t get me wrong, I have loved living in Costa Rica, and I’m definitely going to miss it, but there’s just nothing that can beat your home. That being said, here’s what I plan on doing soon after I set foot on that good old Nebraska soil. Also, these are in no particular order (except maybe the first one because that is urgent).
1) Eat Runza. For you non-Nebraskans, Runza is the best fast food you will ever come into contact with in this lifetime. I already know what I am going to order on the way home from the airport: a swiss-cheese mushroom Runza with onion rings, honey mustard, and a Dr. Pepper.
2) Go grocery shopping. Yeah, I know that sounds a little weird, but it is something I have missed. Living on your own, buying your own groceries, and planning your own meals can be a hassle, but they really become do become fun once you’re accustomed to doing them. I think I’m going to stock up on some Kraft macaroni and cheese.
3) Hit up the library. Last summer, one of my favorite things to do during a full day at work was to take my Brown Baggers chicken salad sandwich to Bennett Martin on my lunch break and read. I read a lot of books about Jews, but I didn’t get through the whole section, so maybe I’ll start working on that when I get home.
4) Do a ton of laundry. I really, really actually love doing my own laundry. It’s such an accomplishment when I wash, dry, fold, and put away, like, four loads one right after the other. I haven’t been doing my own laundry here, so it’ll be sort of nice to get back into the routine (not to mention having all my clothes again!).
5) Make something good to eat for Philipe. I made him an apple pie for his birthday (it was really late, but I mean, when someone is making you an apple pie, do you just reject it if it’s two weeks late? I don’t think so.), and I want to cook, so I’ll make him that or something else. It’ll also give me a good excuse to go see him. I miss my Brazilian man!
6) Visit Grandma. Although she sent browned butter pecan cookies with my parents when they came to visit me (and they were amazing, as always), I would really kill for a yum-yum (don’t ask). I’d also kill to see her and to give that classy lady a big hug! It’s a good thing she lives about two feet from my parent’s house.
7) Have a real Shabbat. I’ve tried to make shabbos special here, but it’s just really difficult when you’re not at home (especially when you’re at the beach on the weekends). I want to hardcore clean the apartment on Thursday, light the candles on Friday night, set aside the homework on Saturday, and spend a relaxing day getting refocused. I’m also missing out on shul services at South Street, so I think I’ll hit some up with my Hillel peoples!
8) Visit campus. I know I don’t really have too much of a reason to do this since it will be summer by the time I get back and I’m not registered for summer classes, but I still want to get Imperial Palace at the Union or something. I love being on UNL’s campus during fall, and I just can’t wait for that time to come around again.
9) Play the piano. There’s not a piano for me to play here, and that’s been okay because I brought my ukulele. However, it’s going to be nice to have those keys under my fingers again. I think I’ll break into some pounding out of Somewhere Only We Know, and maybe Hope can croon along in that special voice we all know and love (and I’m not talking about her singing voice).
10) Be back in my own church (followed by Valentino’s). I can’t wait to be back at Berean, with my Breakaway girls, and making a Valentino’s buffet stop after church with the family. Shrimp pizza. 1-2-3 American Eagle. Wonderful worship. That amazing-cinnamony-sugar-stick-to-the-top-of-your-mouth-dessert pizza. Yes.
